You are on your own! As our basic gun rights are being ever
more erroded by the "powers that be", this truism becomes harder to
maintain than you realize.
First let's set some myths and fallacious beliefs to rest.
When you dial 911...no one has to come. Yes...they do come..but there
is no "law" that says they have to...believe it or not...that is not
their job.
U.S. Law is based on English common law. In English common law
"The Shire reif" (the Sheriff) is a government employee whose main
job is enforcement of government decisions: tax collections, seizure
of property, arresting people wanted by the government, etc.
Maintenance of public order was a secondary job to be done to the
extent of resources allowed.
It was obvious to our country's founding fathers that a sheriff
could not be everywhere at once...to do that would require an army
of sheriffs. Maintaining an army of sheriffs would constitute a
"Police state" and nullify our freedoms as set forth in the Bill of
Rights. The constitution's framers did not want to risk everyone's
freedom just to make sure a few individuals were protected...instead
they provided a judicial system to deal with criminals
(person's that abuse the freedoms provided by the constitution)
and assumed that a law abiding citizen would largely be responsible
for their own safety. AS A MATTER OF LAW...THAT ASSUMPTION IS STILL VALID.
The constitution provides "a well regulated militia, being
necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the PEOPLE
to bear arms, SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED (emphasis mine). The framers
assumed that each person would take care of themselves and their
neighbors and would have to be armed to do so. Our framers capitalized
certain words such as STATE,ARMS,and MILITIA so we could see that we
should not let the power of the country be wielded by it's government.
The People run the country and should not allow a government to
overpower them. The militia made of "the people" was , in part,
to protect "the people" from it's government!!!! The national guard
is an arm of the federal government...When you swear into the state
guard you simultaneously swear into the federal guard. The Framers
of the constitution also wanted the wording of the second amendment
to make it clear that armed individuals could gather together for
specific lawful purposes such as defending the constitution and the
liberties it proclaims.
In 1856 the U.S. Supreme court declared that local law
enforcement had no duty to protect a particular person, but only
a general duty to enforce the laws of government. (South vs Maryland,
59 U.S. HOW 396, 15 L. Ed., 433- 1856)
The Fourteenth Amendment gives you no right police protection...
in 1982, the U.S. court of appeals , seventh circuit held that:
"....There is no constitutional right to be protected by the state
against murder by criminals or madmen... The constitution is a charter
of negative liberties, It tells the government to leave people alone.
It does not tell the government (state or federal) to provide
services, not even so elementary a service as maintaining law and order.
(Bowers vs. DeVito, U.S. court of appeals, seventh circuit etc)
All of this adds up to one thing...You have always been expected
to take care of yourself. I can list suit after suit in which an
individual has sued the state or federal government because the
police didn't protect them...And not one case has been won by an
individual.

In 1972 Mrs. Ruth Bunnell called the San Jose police and
told them that her husband was on his way to her house
to kill her...the police did not come because they had
been there twice before with no results...Mrs Bunnell
was stabbed to death. The court stated Neither a public
entity nor a public employee is liable for a failure to
provide police protection for an individual.
(Hartzler vs. city of San Jose)

Carolyn Warren ,of Washington D.C, called police after
two intruders smashed down her door and raped her house
mate..Carolyn hid until the police arrived but the police
only knocked on the front door and did not check the
smashed back door. They left and Carolyn called back and
begged for the police to come back...hearing a noise
outside that she thought was the police, she came out of
hiding and was captured by the two thugs...For fourteen
hours the two women were raped, beaten and forced into
	sexual acts on one-another.

Superior court held that "The government and it's agents are under no
duty to protect an individual but only to enforce governmental laws...
to an individual no specific duty exists.
As I said before ...I can list example after example of
this truth. This all boils down to one fact...you are expected
to take care of yourself...but this becomes harder to do everyday,
criminals win lawsuits against the honest people that shoot or
injure them during the commission of a crime, our gun rights are
eroded in attack after vicious attack on our basic rights, Police
can "inspect" your belongings under the guise of the war-on-drugs,
people shoot a criminal in their home and are arrested for
"discharging a firearm within the city limits (this one is getting
VERY popular among the courts and anti-gunners)."
Know your rights! Use your Rights! Protect your rights!
Thomas Jefferson said, " The spirit of resistance must be preserved
...make the people take arms, the tree of liberty must be nourished
from time to time by the blood of patriots and tyrants."
